Home descriptions: bad grammar turns off buyers

Grammar matters to people perusing real estate listings. If photos are king, good grammar is queen. Redfin teamed up with the grammar experts at Grammarly. They  found that 87% of those surveyed said the home’s description was either extremely important or very important.

Why it matters

  • Misspellings and improper grammar in a home listing matter “a lot.” 43% would be less inclined to tour a home due to a sloppy home description.
  • Correct spelling, good grammar and proper context let buyers know that details are important to you.

Tips for a home description that sells

  • 50 words is the sweet spot. Buyers prefer a “medium-sized” listing description. Redfin found listings with this descriptions of this length sell tend to sell within 90 days, and higher than list price.
  • Make sure the home description is accurate and readable. Enlist your sellers in the cause.

Do it right. Good grammar demonstrates your credibility, professionalism, and accuracy in your work.
