The noon ride on Sand Hill Road will never look better. Chris Iverson, an avid cyclist, has created Dreyfus cycling gear. He’s giving jerseys and shorts to all of his clients who are into cycling. Chris rides nearly every day, and his old custom clothing was wearing out, and he needed some more. Companies sponsor bike racing teams as rolling billboards, so he thought: “Why not let people know what I do and how to contact me?” Chris proposed the idea to CEO Mike Dreyfus, who immediately said, “Absolutely.” Our Marketing Director connected Chris with a favorite designer of ours, who happens to be a cyclist, to work up a custom apparel design.
Cycling has been termed “the new golf” in Silicon Valley. It offers the same benefits of longer time periods with plenty of opportunity to chat. Having a real estate company logo on his back steers the conversation. Chris rides with several groups, and is often asked about the market, his move to Dreyfus, his Sotheby’s affiliation. Chris has had two sales and a listing totalling $7M directly through people he met riding bikes who know he’s a realtor because of the jersey.
Four sponsors have underwritten the design of these cycling kits: Dreyfus Sotheby’s International Realty, Murray Engineering, OPES Advisors and Red Lantern Cycles in Menlo Park. Chris hopes the designs are well received, prompts more conversations, and expects the program to grow with more riders. “What I like about being at Dreyfus Sotheby’s is that I can get these kind of great ideas done,” said Chris. Bike junkies will be dazzled by the Dreyfus Sotheby’s International Realty jersey, bib, gloves and socks.
