Everything You Need

In downtown Menlo Park you have everything you need within a few blocks. I often come here, park my car and spend a few hours running errands, topped off with lunch or dinner with friends. With all the local conveniences, it would be very easy to live here without a car.

There are restaurants for all tastes and budgets, from the casual (and delicious!) Applewood Pizza, to Carpaccios, a Menlo Park icon. Kepler’s Books is an intellectual and cultural hub of the Peninsula, featuring world-renowned authors and speakers through their Peninsula Arts and Letters program.

Elementary through high schools (Oak Knoll Elementary, Hillview Middle, and Menlo-Atherton High) are all within walking or biking distance, giving kids a sense of freedom that isn’t possible in more secluded suburbs. In addition to the great public schools, there are several excellent private schools nearby.

For family and sports activities, Burgess Park features a children’s playground, two baseball fields, a soccer field, lighted tennis courts, a pool, a skate park, a recreation center, and a gymnasium.

There’s always something going on in downtown Menlo Park. On Wednesday summer evenings, the concerts in Fremont Park are a wonderful place to gather with friends, a picnic, and bottle of wine to enjoy some great music. There’s the annual Halloween parade, and during December there’s the tree-lighting party, breakfast with Santa, and Santa’s visit on the train. The year-round farmer’s markets feature locally and regionally sourced fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish and pizza.
